Course Objective

To provide parents of children undertaking or those who have completed the Mind Ninjas courses, with the tools to manage their own thoughts and emotions, while supporting their children with thoughts and feelings regulation, based on the learnings from the course.

What parents can expect from the course:

You can expect to cover the key learning outcomes from the Mind Ninjas Kids course: Managing Thoughts and Emotions, with additional tools to help with parenting.

  • Course Duration: 6 weeks
  • Session frequency – weekly
  • Session duration: 60 – 90 minute classes held weekly
    • Proposed structure: 60 minute of class content with an activity.
    • Optional: an additional 30 minutes to explore specific issues with the
    group.
  • Course Fee: KES 12,000/-

Additional work:

  • Time commitment of 10-20 minutes per day to complete the daily thoughts and
    feelings journal and gratitude and mindfulness exercises.
  • There will be an expectation to discuss the learnings with your partner and family
    members and identify ways of bringing the learnings and tools into the home.

Course Outline

Week 1 – Being me

  1. Identity and labelling – being me is my superpower.
  2. Introduction to thoughts and emotions – emotions do not define me.
  3. Practicing gratitude – our perspective is everything.
  4. The power of the breath – calm the mind, calm the situation.
  5. Mindfulness – being in the present for parents.

Activity – Creating a gratitude jar & Wheel of Emotions l Self work – 3 good things daily journal

Week 2 – Planting Thought Seeds

  1. Thoughts, feelings and behaviours – I can control our thoughts.
  2. The mind body connection – listen to the body – what is it telling me?
  3. Positive self talk – planting a positive thought seed
  4. Flipping the thought – I create my happy
  5. Expression of love – Love is an action

Week 3 – Big Feelings

  1. Understanding big feelings – the impact of intensity and frequency
  2. Introduction to unhelpful thinking
  3. Identifying the triggers in yourself and your children
  4. Pressing the pause button – recognise, relax, release and refocus
  5. Coping mechanisms for big feelings to use at home.
  6. Letting go – understanding your circle of control

Week 4 – Fears and Anxiety

  1. Mind body connection – Fight, flight and freeze response
  2. Sources of stress and anxiety – the times we live in and the impact on our wellness
  3. Coping mechanisms for fears and anxiety
  4. Tools to support yourself and your child
  5. Creating a safe home environment

Activity – Face my Fears Chatterbox l Self work – Practice the tools from the class

Week 5 – Empathy and Relationship Building

  1. Nurturing connection with your child.
  2. Maintaining open communication
  3. Demonstrating active listening
  4. Being present
  5. Perceptions of reality
  6. Your child’s journey

Week 6 – Summary

  1. Summary of previous weeks’ learning outcome
  2. Preparation of a vision board
